Wood Introduction

Michael W. Dreeben wooden furniture begins at the sawmill. By cultivating relationships with sawyers in the North woods, the Southeast, and Central America, each specializing in regional species, we can select the best whole logs and mill them to specification. All of our wood is aged for a minimum of two years, permitting it to dry and stabilize gradually. The result is an inventory of exceptionally wide, sequenced boards, milled to maximize their inherent beauty and dimensional stability.

Our approach to design begins with the wood itself: wide panels that reflect the full breadth of the tree, robust end grains, wane edges and book-matches. These surfaces are integrated into elegant constructions that achieve stability and cleanliness of line, using prominent traditional joinery. Our pieces are notably free of superficial ornament and engineered wood, and most are built with wood from a single tree.

We offer a super-premium, semi-custom line with an emphasis on tables and a select group of cabinets. Due to our method for procuring wood, our inventory changes regularly. Please contact us for species availability.

Michael W. Dreeben is committed to the use of sustainable forest products. We use wood harvested from managed forests, recycled wood, and plant hundreds of trees each year.
